Fishing at Choke Canyon Reservoir
"Largemouth bass and catfish are the most popular sportfish in the reservoir. Bass are abundant with frequent reports of double-digit fish being boated. Blue catfish are the most abundant catfish species, but flathead and channel catfish also provide excellent fisheries. White bass provide excellent angling opportunities in the main Frio River channel during the cooler months and along the northern shoreline during summer. Although crappie fishing has recently been poor, respectable catches are not uncommon. The number of large alligator gar in the reservoir is presently low due to commercial harvest." Texas Parks and Wildlife Department
"Choke Canyon has developed a reputation over the past few years as having giant bass and lots of them. The lake has given up multiple record setting five fish bags during Bass Champs team events with several sacks weighing over 40 lbs and one weighing 44.98 lbs this past season." Bass Champs
